Andalusia 2020: Gonzalo Serrano wins the first stage with a fantastic solo
When you believe, you finally get it. Gonzalo Serrano was faithful to the saying and in Iznájar (Córdoba) won the first stage of the 66th edition of Vuelta a Andalusia, formerly known as Ruta del Sol. This is a very significant result for Selle Repente, since Gonzalo Serrano’s bicycle is equipped with an ultralight full carbon LATUS M, the latest release by Repente Saddles.
From Madrid, 25 years old, third season as a professional in Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, Gonzalo started his attack with the banner of the last kilometer in sight. Bahrain-McLaren, Movistar and Astana worked to catch him, but there was no response to Serrano's determined attack. He quickly opened a gap in a climb he had studied in detail and reached the finish line alone.
Gonzalo Serrano: "It was a day that suited me very well. Yesterday I tried to keep my strength thinking about today's stage, since it was the route that best suited my characteristics and we had studied it in detail. Normally it does not come out but today luckily we have finished it off perfectly. We had two options: with me or with Orluis. The last stronghold has been climbed, I have seen myself with good legs and I wanted to try it".
"I think I'm not aware yet, I don't believe it. My first victory as a professional and in a race of the level of Andalusia. It is difficult to assimilate it. Right now, both the team and myself, we are very well and the goal is to continue adding".
