Gravel: Ashley Carelock is the queen of The Arkansas High Country Race
The Arkansas High Country Race is a self-supported 1,037-mile gravel race that follows the perimeter of the Arkansas High Country Route. After 7 days and 9 hours, 1,020 miles, 80,000 feet of climbing, Ashley Carelock finished 2nd overall to Ted King and literally destroyed the women’s field and setting a new women's record.
Ashley celebrates and so does Repente, tofficial sponsor of the Rodeolabs Pro Gravel Team, a leading player in the world of agonistic gravel. Ashley Carelock's Traildonkey bike features a Prime saddle, the
best-selling model from which Repente took inspiration to create Artax GL, the brand new saddle expressly dedicated to the gravel world.
“Oh Arkansas – writes Ashley - you will always have a special place in my heart. The Arkansaw High Country Race put up a tough fight against myself and my fellow competitors. Blessed to take the win and set a new female FKT in 7 days 9 hours. I rode the last 265 miles on less than an hour of sleep, the last 127 miles without stopping to narrowly take second place overall. Super congrats to the amazing @iamtedking on his smoking fast race and new FKT”.
The course as presented by Bikepacking.com: starting from Fayetteville cyclists traverse the Ozark Mountains east to the Buffalo National River Corridor, then south into the Arkansas River Valley. From the River Valley, riders dip west through the Ouachita Mountains with sizeable climbs and rollercoaster ridges before climbing back north through the Ozark Mountains to the finish line in Fayetteville.
