Laura Asencio wins her first national title!
Laura Asencio of Team Ceratizit Wnt brings Repente on top of the podium at the U23 French national road race championship.
The race took place in Gray, over a 111.7km flat course. The last kilometre was slightly uphill and very technical because of the rain, with two corners at less than 200m before the finish.
«I knew it was a perfect finish for me”. Laura said. “My region’s teammates worked a lot to catch the breakaway before the finish. Then I knew I had to fight to be in the front in the last km. Then it was 150m from the finish and I sprinted and crossed the line in first position».
When asked about how it felt to win her first national title, 22-year-old Laura Asencio said «It was hard to believe that I was the new U23 National champ. Finally I did it! I’m really happy and proud».
The team spirit was clear with how the regional team were cheering for Laura during the podium and congratulating her at the finish line.
«After the finish I was emotional because the staff and my teammates who were part of the region’s team were my old staff / teammates before I came with Cerartizit Wnt team, starting my career as a professional. So it was cool to share this special moment with them».
