CYCLIST MAGAZINE. And it's truly a work of art that these manufacturers based in Veneto (a stronghold of the cycling industry in Italy) offer. Launched in 2016 by a Selle Royal alumnus and driven by a team of enthusiasts who practice road and mountain biking, Repente offers a dozen models in its catalog (for different uses, different audiences, at prices ranging from €130 to €330). We were able to test the Prime 2.0 model, a small saddle marvel with its sleek lines, its sober and timeless look, a smooth finish, and an astonishing weight: a mere 170 grams.
The rail and the saddle shell are made of carbon (with two distinct compositions/weaves to ensure their function). The rail itself features a very special oval shape. "A saddle's rail doesn't experience the same pressures along its entire length, so we created the Multi Rail Section system to meet these different pressure and torsion needs, staying flexible or rigid where necessary," explains Eros Maccioni. On the road, the Prime 2.0 is a product that does not disappoint. Constant comfort, an almost natural placement on its surface, and a solid seating position (especially thanks to the wide opening that eliminates morphological pressure points). Fans of short noses might be a bit disappointed, but not enough to reject the product! Finally, an important point that makes Repente saddles unique is a clever and economical invention: the RLS, Repente Locking System. In case of a problem with the saddle shell (scratch, replacement, etc.), an eyelet-based mounting and clamping system allows the shell to be separated from the rail in the blink of an eye. "The tools needed to perform the operation? Your fingernails!" specifies the manufacturer. Repente (pronounced Re-pen-teh) already supports the pros of Caja Rural and Team Beltrami, who are completely satisfied with the saddles' durability. It's your turn to be tempted!
