E-bike, the object of desires of many aspiring cyclists
The e-bike is the phenomenon that in this period is driving the bicycle market. Many want it, few have clear ideas on what to buy. Hoping to clarify your ideas a little, let's start with the basics.
How do you ride an e-bike? There is not much difference compared to any other bike, since you have to start pedaling to make it work. Do not make the mistake of thinking that, after the initial rush, she does everything. On an e-bike, if you want, you can sweat at will.
As for the battery life, which varies greatly depending on the model, it is a good idea to maintain a smooth and regular pedal stroke, adapting the choice of gear ratios to the characteristics of the route ( ust like on a normal bike). In short, do not expect the motor to completely replace your legs, also because if you ask too much, you will inevitably stress the battery a lot, reducing its duration.
The e-bike world is now a universe with a thousand faces: city, trekking, racing, gravel e-bikes, e-mtb, more or less "aggressive". There are many e-bikes around, which perform well on all terrains and allow for really fun mountain excursions.
One thing that not everyone knows is that an e-bike has a much heavier weight than a traditional bike, which is why it is good to keep an eye on the display to avoid running out of battery. This can be easily avoided, given that the computer controls of the pedal assisted bikes are very easy and intuitive. In all types of e-bikes you can choose the level of pedaling assistance, on a scale that includes between 3 and 5 levels.
The most advanced motors are located between the cranks, while in the less demanding bikes they can be found in the rear wheel hub. The power is on average 250 Watts, with a maximum torque between 75 and 90 Nm. The batteries vary from 300 to 900 Wh.
The saddle of an e-bike does not necessarily have to be a super light one, but the requirement of comfort should not be neglected at all.
As for prices, well, there are something for all budgets. The less powerful e-bikes with the battery placed externally to the frame do not exceed a lot of one thousand euros, while a good solution for urban travel can cost around 1,500-1,700 euros. If you are looking for something more specific (gravel, mtb, trekking), the range varies at 2,500-3,500 euros.
Recently, prices have undergone a general increase due to the rise in the price of raw materials and the surge in demand. The sore point is the availability of the products put in the catalog by the companies and the waiting times for them: most companies can hardly meet the market demand, so bringing home the e-bike of your dreams is not always that easy.
