HRE Mazowsze gives up racing to help Ukrainian refugees
The Polish team HRE Mazowsze Serce Polski, the first Continental team in the 2020 and 2021 UCI world rankings, has given up competing in the Visit Friesland Elfsteden Race to help refugees from Ukraine. The team's buses and vans, four vehicles, were used to rescue refugees fleeing Ukraine.
«Everything started spontaneously - said the team management -. The first day we transported 60 people, every day there are more calls and requests. Using our own fleet we try to transport as many Ukrainian residents to Poland as possible. Every day we try to offer them a decent stay in Mazowieckie Voivodeship. The next phase of aid will be in favor of a group of young Ukrainian cyclists, who will arrive in Poland from a training camp in Turkey and will need assistance».
«We help as we can, this is the most important goal for us today - says HRE Mazowsze Heart of Poland -. The funds that were to be spent on the first competitions are devoted to the "Ukraine project". We believe we are doing the right thing, we have many Ukrainian friends in cycling and this is our focus today. We hope that our three months of preparation have not been in vain and that soon, with a clean heart and a more serene mind, we will be able to compete on the routes of Poland, Europe and the world.».
An exemplary act to which Repente, from this year partner of HRE Mazowsze Serce Polski, wants to give his applause. "The initiative of the HRE Mazowsze is an authentic lesson in humanity, the demonstration that sport can be an ambassador of noble values and important messages - is the comment of Massimo Farronato, CEO of Repente -. We are proud of this team, which without hesitation postponed the appointment with the victories to help people in difficulty".
