LCF: high mechanical properties with less weight
Prime, Spyd, Quasar, Artax: these are the saddles made with the technology that Repente has called LCF (Long Carbon Fibers), whose peculiarity is to use long carbon fibers to significantly increase the mechanical properties of the "noble polymer" Polyamide 12 (PA12), with which the load-bearing structure is made.
Cyclists know this well, many saddles build in plastic material are prone to deformations of the hull, which can stabilize and create many problems: pain, numbness, involuntary changes of position on the bike and drops in performance. To offer high quality products to those who do not choose full carbon, Repente has selected a particular type of material, the PA12, reinforced not with common carbon fragments, but with long fibers. Thanks to a particular procedure, these constitute a texture that increases the resistance of the structure.
And this explains why in the Repente saddles lightness not only goes hand in hand with quality, but enhances it: since the stresses are absorbed by the interconnected fibers, the limits of use are pushed higher. In order to reach high levels of rigidity, resistance to impact, torsion and traction, lower thicknesses are sufficient to those of a composite with a less advanced reinforcement. A higher result of reversible elastic deformation.
Repente saddles in reinforced PA12 have been extensively tested and are currently used by many professional athletes. Those of Team Bingoal Pawels, for example, faced an intense program of Northern classics with Prime, Spyd and Quasar CR, including the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix.
«The deformability of plastic saddles can be limited by increasing the thickness of the hull, but at the expense of lightness, or by resorting to long carbon fibers - explains Massimo Farronato, CEO of Repente -. What we use in LCF saddles is a 'supermaterial' which has significantly higher production costs than those most commonly used and which allows us to offer our customers a superior product. It's a path in the name of quality that we have undertaken since the beginning and that we want to be the hallmark of our company».
